Refugee Advice and Floating Support Service
Following a positive decision by the Home Office to a claim for asylum in this country, our Refugee Service helps refugees to integrate positively into the community.
The Refugee Service began in 2002, and has so far provided advice and support for over 1,000 refugees.
As most people know, refugees are ordinary people who, because of persecution, war, torture, political and social instability, have had to flee their countries. They are now displaced people and want desperately to settle down and make a positive contribution to this country.
The project:
- Provides refugees with information regarding the various kinds of accommodation in this area.
- Gives practical help in setting up home, such as sourcing furniture and sorting out utilities.
- Provides support for up to 12 months or longer to enable refugees to successfully keep their tenancies.
- Enables services users to integrate into the community and live independently.
- Signposts refugees to other services, such as education, employment, recreational and cultural activities.
