Children & Young People One to One Support

The RWF project has a children and young peoples support worker. The support worker provides 1-2-1 sessions with any child or young person who has or is witnessing Domestic Violence. The support worker understands the complex feelings many children and young people can have when living with Domestic Violence. They provide a safe space where children can discuss their thoughts, feelings and experiences of Domestic Violence and can help the child or young person explore in more detail what Domestic Violence is.
Children witnessing Domestic Violence can have many other issues that the support worker can also help and advise, challenging behaviour, truanting, excluded from school - requires educational setting, bereavement.
Many children and young people living with Domestic Violence can have child protection plans and child in need plans, the support worker can support the child through these explaining the procedures of such plans and why they are in place. The support worker can also support the child if they decide they would like to attend any meetings that involve them.
The child or young person will have 8 sessions of support usually within the school or the nearest children's centre which ever is deemed most appropriate. After 8 sessions together the child and support worker will review all the sessions to see if the support plans outcomes have been met, if not and the child requests more sessions the support work will continue.
The sessions are confidential between the child and support worker, however following safeguarding procedures and information sharing protocol confidentiality can be breached.
